In martial arts, they teach you how to hold your body so you can fight and defend successfully, while minimizing the damage to your own body. These are called fighting stances. According to www.fighttips.com, the 4 best fighting stances are as follows: ![]()
![]() All of the above stances are effective in fighting. In spiritual warfare, there are times when God's children have to be on the offense – we have to throw punches and kicks. Other times, we have to be on guard against the enemy and be ready to take down his warriors. However, each of these stances leaves us vulnerable to certain attacks and we will fail if we do not assume the most effective, powerful position in spiritual warfare. The movie War Room is one of my favorite movies. It is unlike many other Christian movies which either attempt to prove God is real, or dramatize some event, past or future, from the Bible, often waxing unBiblical in their attempts to be “more interesting.” True to the Kendrick Brothers' style, this movie, instead, uses a story to illustrate a Biblical principle, something Jesus often did with His parables. In this movie, Elisabeth, a real estate agent, is struggling in an ungodly marriage with her husband, Anthony, a pharmaceutical salesperson. The couple is always fighting one another, but never really winning. Their sweet daughter, Danielle, is becoming collateral damage. A divine appointment with the fiery, Spirit-filled Ms. Clara, the widow of a battle strategist, sets Elisabeth on a path to fighting the right way. She changes her strategy from fighting against her husband to fighting for him. She turns her weapons against the real enemy of her soul and family, Satan, and surrenders the battle to the Lord, in prayer. She learns to take the most powerful fighting stance in spiritual warfare – her knees. We must learn to do the same. We must learn to do our fighting in prayer. We are powerless against the enemy, otherwise. ![]() In Ephesians 6, Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God because we are fighting against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places. He lists the armor for us in verses 14-17: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sabatons of the preparation of the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Then, in verse 18, he tells us to always pray and be watchful, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” Getting on our knees before our holy, powerful God is most important if we want to stand against the enemy and his powerful, wicked, deadly warriors in high places. The one that has most recently reared its ugly head, again, is abortion. As you probably already know, New York has recently passed a bill that allows a child to be murdered up to the moment of birth. It is important for God's children to stand against this vicious, demon who slays the helpless on the altars of convenience, cowardice, money, and feminism. However, if you do not first humble yourself, seek the Lord in prayer, and wait for His empowerment, you will fall. You will not do the Kingdom of God any service if you charge into the battle on your own strength. You will be struck down. If you fight the wrong way and do not give the battle for your marriage and family to the Lord, you be struck down and you might take your whole family down with you. If you do not hand the battle for your church, your school, your community, or your country to the Lord, you will be struck down and so might they. Do not into battle before gearing up. That is foolish and arrogant and you will be struck down. Conclusion: Spiritual warriors win from their knees. If you want God's power in your life, so that when He calls you to battle you will be able to stand, then humble yourself before Him and assume your fighting stance.
